On June 17, 2019, NOAA approved a request by the Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) to increase their funding limit by $10 Million to cover award activities through the award end date of 6/30/2020. JISAO is among the largest and oldest of NOAA’s Cooperative Institutes. It is at the forefront of basic and applied investigations on such critical issues as climate change and its impacts on humans and ecosystems, ocean acidification, fisheries assessments and tsunami modeling and forecasting.   

NOAA issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to create a new Cooperative Institute for the Pacific Northwest and Polar Regions. The NOFO can be viewed on grants.gov by searching for opportunity number NOAA-OAR-CIPO-2020-2006289.
