Research Themes
- Conservation , Protection, and Restoration of Marine Resources – Research that leads to prototype development of technology, research tools, and scientific approaches to effective coastal and marine spatial planning, species recovery and habitat restoration.
- Marine Ecosystems – Research under this theme will lead to improved forecasting of marine ecosystem conditions. This research includes ecosystem monitoring, modeling, characterizing and forecasting marine ecosystem processes, conditions and relationships, and conducting genetic, genomic, metagenomic and other-omic research to evaluate marine and aquatic communities and their responses to varying conditions.
- Ocean Acoustics – Research conducted under this theme will utilize acoustic facilities, technology, and remotely deployed equipment to understand the changing global ocean ambient soundscape and to identify and assess acoustic impacts from human activities and natural processes on the marine environment.
- Ocean, Coastal, and Seafloor Processes – Research under this theme will focus on the connections and processes that link the seafloor, the coasts, and the overlying ocean.
